The Barbier-Muller museum was found in 1977 in order to
preserve and share with the public an extensive collection started by
Josef Mueller in 1907.
Its collection of over 7,000 pieces ranges from sculptures to fabrics from different primitive civilizations around the world, mostly African, Pre-Americans and tribal Asia, which led the museum to achieve great international recognition, having exhibited its collection in 85 museums in the past 25 years.
Its uniqueness lies in the fact that most of its items are priceless masterpieces from extinguished civilizations.
